I think the whole "butch" and "femme" thing is totally whack. Wasn't the whole point of "being your own person" by freely expressing your sexuality supposed to break stereotypes and boxes as opposed to repackaging our relationships with similar gender roles that we see in the majority of straight people?

It seems when being introduced in some circles of homos and non homos the first question is "are you butch or femme?" and I honestly think its very offensive. I like to wear guys clothes sometimes and prefer to take a more dominant role in the bedroom, but I love pink (the color, not vag :-p) and am very "girly" in many other stereotypical senses.

I have been told by some girls that I wasn't femme enough for them (although I think that was code for attractive) while others said that I wasn't butch so they would not give me the time of day.

I am aware that as long as humans exists, no matter what sexual orientation or mindset one may have, that we will continue to try to put everyone and everything in boxes.

My question is am I the only person that thinks "butch" and "femme" stereotypes in lesbian and straight relationships are totally bogus and should go away?

Re: Butch and Femme: Genderist Lesbians
I think the sterotypes are ridiculous when assuming that because of how somebody looks they like certain things.

But I don't mind people only likeing butch of femme because maybe that is what they are attacted to. Although this probably won't get you far in the long run.

But most people just make assumptions by what you are and what you look like, and that is wrong..simply wrong.

I wanna hurt my wireless! >< I thought I typed something really insightful...

Well...

It's disappointing when all you want to do is get away from all the labeling and all that there is ever to face is getting labeled. I would think that anyone truly looking for a significant other would take those walls and high expectations away. Because we all have different sides to us, and it's not fair that many only get seen for what their appearance is.

Well even as a guy we have to deal with stuff like this in the straight side of stuff. I mean yeah for me I am in the military and that means I am suppose to be all that is guy or something but hell I wont lie I cry like a little kid when I watch movies like A walk to Remember and Marley and Me... those are the last two at least to make me do that lol.. I love a lot of movies that are more aimed for females and are emotional. I have had some of my male friends knwo me to go see these movies and given me so much crap.. by why? Is there really a point?

Stereotypes will forever be around.
