Last night I started the first volume of the Cairo Trilogy by Mahfouz… Palace Walk.

It is an exquisitely painted picture of family life in Cairo before the British left. The wife and her six children and the fearsomely somber Husband/Master/Patriarch are compelling and exotic and all too familiar  all at the same time. And since there are three of them I should have a good time with them for quite a while.

By then my Robert Graves books on Rome should have arrived and I can leave the sordid world of HBO’s sex ridden/ sadomasochistic fantasy rendition of Octavian’s life and jump into the poetic beauty of Graves’ writing.  It’s a good day to think about books as the temperature has dropped and rain  is forecast for all day so I can leave behind my garden obsession and instead  I can build a fire, curl up on the sofa with a thick blanket and a cup of jasmine pearl tea and lounge my day away.

Well that’s after I finish two duvet covers for half comforters so Jim can have one weight duvet and I another. And maybe make another kitty bad out of fleece for the Princess Abigail. Here is yesterday’s addition… which she took to instantly.

Or  maybe I will simply procrastinate and stare out the windows at the rain.

The Cairo Trilogy sounds very interesting. I'll have to look into it.

Sweet cat! I love cats. They are just completely awestastic.

Staring out windows at rain is a wonderful way to procrastinate. Few things can compete with rain watching.

lol....yeah, I don't get what's so great about a dog's life (as that saying goes)...but a cat's life....now that's something special.

I'm not a huge fan of gardening but I've helped my mom with it in the past. Something about the hot sun and soil on my hands or something. I do, however, love earth worms and huge leafy trees and the deep blue color of the sky before a storm rolls in. lol...So, I like nature without getting my hands dirty, I guess. lol Do you like to garden?

if you wear gardening gloves you won't have to deal with the dirt.- i haave three pirs plus leather pruning gloves-  and yes after a long time in the south when it was too hot and muggy to garden- plus snakes and spider and roaches in the soil- I am getting back in touch with planting and reaping and it is a great comfort and thrill to see life springing from the ground. so this spring is a multifaceted rebirth for me. I am finally back inthe west - where i belong.

Well that's awesome.
Yes, I truly hate the spiders here. I don't like spiders in general (funny that a person can be scared of such a small creature...but never the less, I am).
