months ago jim added a cat hole to our bedroom suite so abi could come and go and now she has gotten into some very very bad habits  ( like jumping on the kitchen island and budging expensive glassware over the edge  ans watching them fly into smithereenville)   and we've decided not to give her the run  of the house at night. So jim is designing and making a little door with a mini bolt so we can lock her in with us at night.

She is fascinated by the process. she knows this is some attempt to stymie her and maybe if she watches him  work she can figure out ways around it.

Meanwhile I have added aluminum foil to the island edges to prevent her from jumping up there. It really works but obviously it's not a perfect solution. In Montgomery I used a wall of aluminum foil to terach her to never enter the dining room so I am confident I can conquuer and redirect this new habit.

If we see you wrapped in tinfoil we will know you are  not trying to imitate Madonna but just dealing with the cat.

Oh Naughty naughty Abi ;~)  She's soooooo cute I bet that helps her get away with some very bad habits.  Remind me to scan a card I got from my brother yesterday with a cat on it.  His cat (still a kitten) is very naughty.  Abi sounds like she is doing pretty OK too, in that department.

Your kitty door is simply adorable, not to mention its target user.  It seems a shame to block it off.  My cats would have never tolerated being locked in the bedroom with me at night.  Hopefully she won't paw and scratch at the bolt and keep you awake!

Re: cat house- getting caught is a problem
luckily the bedroom suite consists of 4 rooms: bedroom two rooms converted to dressing rooms and a large master bath. lots of windows and perches and toys and she loved being near me _ is rarely in a room than I am not in- so it is not as aversive as it sounds. and in the morning she never wakes me, just patiently sits at my head and stares at me  till i wake.

Now if she was locked out of a room I am in she would nudge the door and meow to belet in, but she rarely wants to be more than 10 feet from me anyway. we are very very very close. she just would leave for a little nighttime stroll and probably jump on anything and everything and our only absolute rules for her are: no jumping on kitchen counters or the dining table, no going outside unless leashed and no scratching the fuurniture-  oh my that was a long long answer wasn't it. all in all she is a very good kitty friend.

Those were the exact same rules I had for my cats.  Amazing how they will take any opportunity to try and break #1, isn't it?  You both sound very lucky.   I miss having cats.  Dogs are a totally different thing.
