I have to fight sentimentality, because I could live my whole life surrounded with only thoughts of yesterday. Perhaps it is a dilemma not too uncommon around these parts, particularly this generation, but it can really hinder a good time.

Some days when I'm feeling cynical I think the lot of us, the whole mid-eighties to early-nineties crowd, I feel like we're a whole new lost generation, people stuck in after an era of prosperity, growing up in a good world that one day disappeared.

We grew up knowing we could be anything, and now it seems like there's just nothing for us. Or that we just can't seem to get anything done. Obviously this is a general statement, there's always gonna be the people who do.

I have a hard time phrasing this in a way that doesn't make me know someone is about to go "What the heck are you talking about".

Perhaps we are the first of a generation in which sentimentality is something we don't have to have. We have videos of us as kids, pictures everywhere, old TV shows aren't gone forever but live here on the internet. Movies come out on DVD's. Any multimedia memory we've ever had lives on and on and on. Perhaps this gives us a certain association with the past that former generation never had. Is that really an advantage?

If you want to, you can simply remain in 1995 forever.

And you can. And some do.

Re: Remembering Unions (Alt.: Day 5)
it's far too easy to look back and see the simple things.. especially when you block out any bad memories.

though, I mean this is totally my thoughts going out here, but I was reading in Ecclesiastes and it says not to live boasting your previous years.
for it is the present that truly matters, you will get nowhere dwelling on the past.

did I directly quote it, no. because I have a most horrid exact memory.
but my point being, you should be grateful for previous years, but don't get caught up in how great they were and avoid the present, which will determine your future.
and I'm not saying that this is what your post was about.. just a random thought.

btw, The Adventures of Pete & Pete Season 3 never came out on DVD.....
