
Don't be so hard on yourself, Mark. First, a college degree isn't the key to success. Plenty of very successful people haven't got one. Second, you're still young...you haven't missed out on anything yet. You've got plenty of time to try a lot of different things until you find the one that fits. Just don't stop trying.
Well, I don't know much about the field of welding, the demand for it, and I know even less about how I would do it (I don't know if it involves soldering, but I got to solder a little metal recently for an assistive technology piece for a class, and that was AWESOME!), but if you're not satisfied with it, it's never too late to make a change. Take a class somewhere, like a local community college, and see if something else sparks your interest.
I'm not really unsatisfied I'm just really bummed out from being unemployed and have kind of be going through this self-doubting thing.
