Thank god for coffee. I have been up since five-thirty this morning because some work was being done at the shoe store. The new owner of the building is having a fire alarm installed. My father wanted me to be there to make sure they didn't fuck anything up, or walk off with any tools or shoes.
I just sat around drinking coffee and trying to stay awake while the work was being done. I am so freaking tired right about now. I'm on my third cup of coffee for the day and I'm still not quite awake.
My father is being nice enough to let me talk some time off before I head back there to close for the day. But as ussual I am too busy, I'm taking a little time at my favorite coffee shop and then I have to go and pay my tuition.

But this morning I  flipped on NPR while the work was being done and listened to the news. When Dad come in at opening time (8:30) he changed the station to the commercial talk radio station. He really just wanted to hear his ads.
I found it very interesting the the NPR news was almost a complete 180 of what the commercial talk was. NPR was reporting about the Iraq funding debate while the Commericial station was talking about American Idol and Paris "I'm a spoiled little rich girl" Hilton trying to get out of serving her prision time.
Why The fuck is Paris Hilton news!?!
You know, we have really reached a sad point as a country where a fucking celebrity is more news worthy then a war. I mean who the fuck has such short attention span that they can only pay attention to what the people in Hollywood are doing?
Or maybe that's not it. Maybe we as a country are just so lonely that we can only see our lives as what we see on  TV.  I mean people are signing a bunch of damn petitions to have the Governator Arnold pardon her. Who the hell is signing that? She broke the law more then once she deserves to serve her time like everyone else.
Thousands and Thousands of people are being killed daily in Iraq and all we care about is Paris Fucking Hilton. They are saying it's unfair for her to go to prison for forty-five day.  What the hell is going on?  You wanna know what is really unfair, The fact that we still occupy Iraq and that our men and women in uniform are dying when they shouldn't have to.
Put things in perspective, Paris Hilton's jail sentence is no where near as bad as George Bush refusing to change strategies on the war. Paris Hilton will serve a month and a half while somewhere there is a child who wil never see her father again because Bush wanted oil.
Which is more important? You tell me.

Thanks,
Mark

you just don't get it do you Mr. Orange ??? Did you ever ever hear the phrase, "justice for all" ? We need to get back to this basic principal . What did you study (learn) in school about our country. We are out of contro becasuse of thinking like yours......

Re: Paris Hilton or War, Which is news?
"thinking like yours"- what? That it is important that over 3,000 of our men and women and over 65,000 innocent civilians have died in the unjust war in Iraq?

I'm all for justice but the war in Iraq in unjust started on lies and continued only to secure the oil in that  country.

Does Paris deserve jail time, is that justice? probably. Is it more important and more newsmorthy the the mess of a war? Hell no!

People are sentence to DUI and parole offences almost everyday, The Fact that some "socialite" got busted really shouldn't be news. Or at least news that has a half life of over a month. The Paris Hilton Sentence should have been a footnote, not a headliner.

Wow! someone that gets it! Thanks MisterOrange...  I agree with you she is the most useless piece of flesh alive on the planet. Please read my comments to ccstud on Paris.

Former presidents (Very rich men.... ) have the gall to go on TV after Katrina and the Tsunami and lay a guilt trip on us to send in money to help people who are bad off.  W.T.F!  Where is all the damn money I pay in taxes..... I don't see the Rich helping out much.... The Government isn't helping either.

I'm 43 and this country is going to shit. Everything is upside down, Damn liberals. There is a saying I use all the time: "Common sense is uncommon"

If Paris Hilton had no money tomorrow, we would never see her again on TV. Bet on it.

You right, no special TV coverage for our Service men and women on the line in Iraq, and the rest of the world, so that skinny bird nose witch can drive her $100K convertible drunk. Where are the petitions for the rest of us?

The founding fathers warned against what is happening in America today, when they framed our governement in the 1780's. Many didn't want any form of monarchy.

President John Adams worried about this too. He knew that even though we left England behind after the revolution he believed (rightly so) there would be other forms of elitism that would develop. He especially worried about the wealthy land owners and the highly educated (lawyers, men of business: bankers) accumulating power and influence over and being in government. He saw the cult of personality as a problem in our republic. Paris Hilton is just one very small part of this disease.

Look at the last 10 presidents only President Ford was not an extreme wealthy lawer or business man but a long term politician. The rest were Men that made millions and the salary of the President was not an incentitive to them for the job. they are the priviledged elite that John Adams told us to be ever watchful of.... remember they are really running this country not us.

Think about it.

I agree with some of what you said and I appreciate you reply but we seem to have different views of the same problem.

I personally think that the work former Presidents Clinton and Bush have done is great. it's not like the money they were collecting went into their own pockets, it went to the thousands who needed our help.

As for the tax dollars issue unfortunately we do not have enough in our budget to cover every disastor and that is where the red cross and salvation army and others come in.

Although I do consider myself a liberal, I do not think this is a "red state/blue state" thing. I think it is the manor in which our society has become desperate, depressed, and lonely..

but, still thanks for your reply.
