This post was inspired by and dedicated to rraspberry.  Here is the recipe.

Zutaten
3 Eier
200 g Zucker
1/2 Zitronengelb ( Schale einer 1/2 Zitrone)
Pr. Nelken
Pr. Kardamon
8 g Zimt
Pr. Salz
50 g Zitronat
150 g gehobelte Mandeln
250 g Mehl

Zuckerwasser aus:
1 EL Zucker und
1 EL Wasser

Zubereitung

I used walnuts instead of almonds, since that is what I had laying arround.  I also used Whole Wheat flour because the bleached white stuff is nasty.

Getting ready to get started.

They turned out quite tasty, but I think when I make them again, I'll put in a bit more of the spices.

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
I guess I could do a translation, but Red would do a better job than me.

Nothing goes better with sex than exchanging recipes for cookies.

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
Wow! Your house must smell heavenly! I must say I'm quite flattered. Thank you, drunkenoso. I hope you are enjoying them. With respect to translation did you understand all of the ingredients? Here's the translation:

3 Eier - 3 eggs
200 g Zucker - 200 g Sugar
1/2 Zitronengelb ( Schale einer 1/2 Zitrone) grated rind of 1/2 a lemon
Pr. Nelken - a dash of cloves
Pr. Kardamon - a dash of cardamon
8 g Zimt - 8 grams of cinnamon
Pr. Salz - a dash of salt
50 g Zitronat - 50 grams of candied lemon peel
150 g gehobelte Mandeln - 150 grams of almonds
250 g Mehl - 250 grams flour

Gradually mix all the ingredients together, then use 2 teaspoons of the dough to make these patties. Did you use the Oblate? It's a thin wafer that you use as a base to put 2 teaspoons of the dough on. It helps the dough from not sticking to the cookie sheet. Bake for 12 minutes at 210 degrees (not sure how that translates into the American Oven - perhaps 350 degrees?). After it's baked glaze with the sugar water, which is listed below.

Zuckerwasser aus: Make sugar water/glaze from:
1 EL Zucker und  - 1 spoon sugar
1 EL Wasser - 1 spoon water

Again, wow! Thank you for sharing it with us and I hope you're enjoying it. I'd probably use whole wheat flower as well. It's probably less sweet but much more healthier

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
I couldn't find any Olates.  I guess a could have raided the local catholic church.

I cooked at 400 degrees and it seened to work just fine.

I wasn't exactly sure what Zitronengelb was, but I guessed right.  I seemed to make sense.

I also used tangerines instead of lemon, because I have a sack of tangerines and only one lemon.

Thank you very much for reminding me about this tasty treat.  I will enjoy them greatly.  So, will every one else around me.  It made 2 dozen cookies, so I have enough to share.

YW, drunkenoso. Thank you for sharing the wonderful pictures. I might have to try it, too. I think it works without the wafers, too. You're right, you would have to raide the local Catholic church. LOL! Enjoy the cookies

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
I didn't get to go shoot the deer like I had planned.  The semi-auto  rifles with the sileincers weren't delivered like they were supposed to be.  So, we're going to have to do the mass deer slaughter some other time.  One of the cool things about doing it as part of a wildlife management project is that it does't even need to be during deer hunting season.

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
Cool - Mr. H would be soooo jealous of that.

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
IT really isn't that much fun.  After killing and cleaning about 20 deer in one day, it is just nasty bloody work.

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
20???  Oh - I just meant the hunting out of season part - we usually only take 1 deer a season because that is all we will eat.

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
the goal on this particular piece of property is to cull 175 to 200 does this year.  Its alot of damn work.

Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
Do you donate any of the meat to food banks or homeless shelters?

That is alot of venison - if I owned a restaurant I would buy it from you.

DrunkenOso on
Re: My House Smells Like the Holidays
It is against the law to sell it, so it is all donated to the food bank.
