Sorry, your little bat is not cute. I've had too many in my bedrooms at night over the years, and they aren't a favorite of mine.
Your sunset is gorgeous though.
So ugly she is cute :o). . . . something about those bony knuckles, sharp claws, bristly chin and beady little eyes that just encourages a shudder. Looks like you've got a good grip on her there- did you just snatch her out of the air?
The proper bat catching technique involves a small fishing dip net which has padding around the edges. You then stand on the edge of the bat tornado, holding the net out and wait for a bat to fly in. I have a picture of Melissa doing it that I took last year. I'll see if I can find it.
tee hee. but you can see the resemblance. i've crittersat for 2 bostons, both of them named prissy. i always called them *my lil bat faces* or *die fledermaus*.
We had a Boston T when I was around 5 or 6. We gave him to my Aunt & Uncle because he was so hyper. He died a few years later from a heart attack...he got pissed because they went out to dinner without taking him and he dug up all thier flowers and shrubbery and had a heart attack because it was hot and he over-exerted himself. His name was Buddy.
great bat, what a face and those ears!. too bad how some are hard to get a shot of without manipulating them!
hey you're likely a person who might know this or know if this is old wives tales;
bats are often feared as the carriers of rabies - but how do they get it? Biting an animal with it or is it a virus in their systems?
They're an important part of the whole; eating huge numbers of insects, but they shouldn't be in a home - if that gal's renting the landlord should have to repair that because bat dung is unhealthy for humans.
:-)

Bats get rabies, just like any other mammal. they can only become rabid through contact with a animal that has rabies. Usually it is transmitted by the rabid animal biting the bat.
Also there is nothing harmful about bat dung. There is a fungus which grows in soil that causes histoplasmosis, which haas given bat guano a bad rap. This fungus only grows in warm damp places and is more commonly found in areas that are enriched by feces. Which is why it is sometimes present in the soil around large bird and bat colonies.

Thanks for clearing that up! Makes me like them even more! I have a few bats that fly around our yard and in my neighbourhood, they come out as the sun's setting. it's fun and I am considering putting up a box of some sort for them high in one of the taller trees around the fence.
This is the cutest bat Ive ever seen - not that ive seen many of them! But Im sure shes the queen of all the cute bats in the world!
