I have talked about love a lot. But what is it? Do I even know what it is? I talked to a friend, and he says I don't. He says I can't feel love. He says I can't know what it is, because of my age. I have to say I completely disagree with this. I felt it was almost insulting to hear him say that. I know I'm probably doing to get mixed responses on this one, from people who share his belief, and people who agree with me.

I just don't think you can truly put an age on love. He says if you don't know what it is, you can't feel it. I don't think feelings are like that. Something can make you angry, and even if you don't know the word that means angry, or understand what it means to be angry, you can still be angry. We can have feelings and not know what they are. That's my opinion.

And love, I feel I know it very well. Too well, if that's possible. I have been in love a few times, and I don't doubt that it was love that I was and am feeling right now. People describe love in different ways, and have different definitions, and I think that's fine, but for someone to tell me that I can't feel love, when I feel it so strongly... I just don't know what to say to them.

Who can tell another person what they can or cannot feel? We aren't them, we can't know, and I don't think we should judge. Now I know I probably sound pretty nieve, and maybe I am. I won't deny it's possible. However, I believe in love, and I believe that I am in love. I don't see how he can deny that.

I believe that love is to care for someone immensely, obviously. I  think that is the basis. And we could define love, but everyone who's felt it knows what it is, and those who haven't, don't.

Love is a feeling. A very strong feeling. I am in love. I have loved someone for over two years now. I am quite certain of that. I have felt it so strongly it sometimes makes me dizzy, it makes me do crazy things. Anyone whos read my blog all along knows this.

I don't think someone should tell me what I can and can't feel.

Re: Too Young To Be In Love
I don't think anybody knows lol - or at least it's very confusing because there's more than one type (i.e. care (even with friends, i'd call it a form of love), crush, attatchment (i.e. parental), thinking that anticipation is love (I do that), respect, self esteem (genuine love/respect for yourself), and often it's complicated further by lust on top of that.

That guy doesn't know how much you do/don't know, and has no right in my book to say you don't know something just because of your age - that's one helluva assumption, and he probably isn't aware how much he doesn't know himself (kinda ironic). If he's putting you down for kicks he's abusing the position of being older.
As you said, he has no way of knowing what you felt, and on top of that, maybe the feeling is different accross genders? - or even between people

I believe in the power of caring-ness and understanding for changing the world, but not romance and certainly not passion - I think I have a bias aginst the stereotype of what a passionate man is, and romance has yet to save me - for a guy if you don't have the guts to ask, you're screwed. I don't think any extreme feeling is healthy. Love won't come to me, i'd have to go to it, or at least meet halfway and intitiate something myself - I just can't do that.

Re: Too Young To Be In Love
I agree.

That's what I think as well.

I seem to have a lot of extreme feelings, and tend to like extremes, I think they balance out for me, depending.
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
But yea... sometimes extreme is just bad...to the very extreme.

Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Well that's crap, that age thing.

I mean I can get into the whole discussion in relation to polymorphic perversion.

But I think people as young as us are capable, but more often blindly followed. They say that adolescent love is more lovey dovey and more devoted to the person. But I thought of this and like to thing of it this way because I see a lot of adults and their love. It doesn't look so good. And I'd rather stay a child if being an adult means loving like them.
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
That's my idea, too.

Hm?

True, sometimes. Maybe. What do you mean, adults and their love? I just think adolscents just show it a lot more.
karl on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
skip to the end

Well adults seem miserable. I mean miserable because they usually seem lifeless or absorbed into other dealings. I just think that it's hard to notice any love in them between the arguing and blunt force hate. I don't know. Maybe some people just don't know when they should call it quites. I think being a child is a lot more viable if all I see from example by them is simple and true.
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Hmm. I have seen loving adult relationships, and terrible adult relationships... I think maybe you see younger happy relationships more because they are out in public, generally. A happy married couple may be at home a lot, and work. I think maybe people don't always know when they need to end the relationship, no. There can be a lot of feelings and confusion therein, as well. Weighing out all of the consequences. There is usually a lot more to deal with, in adult relationships for obvious reasons.

But as to the simpleness of young love? I don't think that's always true.
karl on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
I know, it's all delusional for me. Obviously we aren't the adult templates to know. But I am just saying that from what I've seen marriages don't really work out. From what I've seen, nothing does.
You know when you're walking down the street you see the couple holding hands and walking. I sometimes think that "what's under the sleeve of her shirt? Bruises or something?" I know it's pessimistically looking at it. Maybe I'm just negative or something.
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Same here, I find most marriages don't. I only know about 2 successful ones right now, of my friends parents. Indeed, nothing really seems to work out.

Yeah... when something is too good, you wonder what is hidden. And usually there is something, sadly.

Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Damn battered wives. Damn them.... and not damn them in a bad way, just damn that they are beaten.

I hope the next relationship I have won't be like that. Because most people are unaware of the secret side of relationships and don't think about that and they get into them and it just happens. Partly because they never thought about that before. I do, sometimes, and I can guarantee that won't happen because it's the way I feel about women and such.
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Yeah...

Yep, that's usually how it is. I think, as I'm pretty sure I mentioned before somewhere, that I am more likely to have an abusive relationship, by looking at the kind of guys I tend to fall for...
karl on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Yep yep

Sad. I usually go for the girls that get themselves into those kind of relationships. So here I am watching they be mistreated. Misused. Then all I can do is watch. I guess I am not economically viable.
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Yeah...  How are you not economically viable? what does it cost you?

karl on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Well i picked the word from Falling Down because I watched it last night again... How that applies to me is I am not seen as useful or wanted because I don't have all the "wrong" qualities.

Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Ah, I see. Oh, yes. I understand.

Re: Too Young To Be In Love
yeah me and you both.

haha, well I have had an old sitcom binge... So I've been downloading old sitcoms and movies I have interest in. So I've been watching movies, sitcoms Dharma and Greg, Dharia, Johnny Bravo, Rockos modern life, Dilbert, a few others I think. But it's those and movies, I did watch Grease and Pulp Fiction yesterday!
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Oh, I know.. ugghh.

Haha nice. I thought Dilbert was just a comic.. hmm. Woot Grease! XD I have to say I generally love musicals. The only one I genuinely hate with a passion is High School Musical. >.>
karl on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Yeah it's the comic, but adapted  it for tv around 1998 2000 maybe.

Wow, I think I love you! You summed it up perfectly with musicals and the hatred of High School Musical
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Interesting.

Woot! : D
karl on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Quite.... can't see why they canceled it...

Yes.. All though I was in a talent show where the theme was the High School Musical. It pissed me off.

DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Whoever decided THAT, must die.
karl on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Yes they must. It was sad, I wouldn't have considered it but it was decided halfway through the commitment and they announced it later on.... I didn't want to waste me and my friends work. besides we lost anyway.
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
You entered into it?
karl on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
I entered the talent show. the Highschool musical theme was a later product. I would not have considered it had I known though.

Re: Too Young To Be In Love
I don't think anyone else can tell you if you know what love is or not, only you know.

Besides, personally, I think everyone knows what love feels like, maybe in different degress, I think love knows no age.

It is an emotion, a feeling, I think it is a part of life.

Anyway, point is, from your post, I think you already know everything you need to know. Just, from what I have read, this guy may not love you back, I know that may hurt but you need to face it. You need to move on so you can grow and be happy. There are so many people out there in the world, have to find someone who is not attached to someone else.

You can do it, I know you can. Unreciprocated love flows back into your heart and makes it softer.

DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Exactly.

I agree again.

Indeed it is.

I know all of this, I just can't seem to listen to it.

I don't know...

Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Age has been put in because of where we live is what we should said. We let things influence on the way of society. Not sure if that's making sense. I mean did age matter YEARS ago, now there's age brackets everywhere, even laws even though  that's to protect people yes, but we view it in such a bad way here in the United States that it's changed a whole generation of thinking.
DarkSalem on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
Are you saying that we view age brackets as a bad thing ( because of how society influences us) ,even though they're meant to protect us? I'm not sure I understand.
MakenZero on
Re: Too Young To Be In Love
yes I guess that's how you could put it. I don't make much sense either so I'm not surprised you're confused ^_^;;
