Yes, his name is Tux!

I am typing this entry, in the bathroom, #2, on my laptop, which is currently:

My laptop is not that old.  I just bought it this past Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving Day).  After installing Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), I feel like I have a whole new toy all over again.

I still have my default OS in this thing.  But now, everytime I turn my laptop on, I have a choice (GRUB) whether I want to log into Ubuntu Linux or Microsoft Vista (default).

For a while there, I thought I was really good with computers. After having my first take at Ubuntu Linux, I feel like a n00b all over again. Any Linux users care to teach me how to walk all over again?

I'm on the terminal, like:
sudo /what/the/?

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
heh anything would feel refreshing after using vista

Sorry, I think Vista is the windows ME of the 21sth cent.  I am not a big fan.

HOWEVER

Linux has a lot of issues, mainly that it isn't that friendly to newcomrs.  Even "user friendly" versions like Ubuntu.  I totally want a Linux pc, but I still think that it has a looong way to go before it is a viable competitor to Windows.

And I still abhore vista.  My laptop has xp on it, so does my desktop.  Ah well... I know I"ve heard people that defend vista, but I'm not sure how many of them worked in tech support for the year after it launched.

Anyway, let me know what you think about Ubuntu.  I thought about turning my laptop in to a linux system (or dual booting) especially since my laptop is about 4 years old now.  Still totally usable, however.  I'm running adobe photoshop cs2 and web design apps on it atm.

Also using a tablet for the pc. I've fallen in love with my tablet.  Bought it last year but didn't start really using it until about a month ago.

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
I dunno, I actually like it.  Maybe it's not the operating system that I like.  It's probably this laptop's processor speed, ram, and hard drive capacity that I like most.

For sure, I did not expect Ubuntu Linux to be n00bie user friendly.  It actually fried my brain one night, trying to figure out how I can get my wireless adapter to work.  But brain challenges such as is like, sexy!

My desktop has XP on it, and I love it!!!1  The only problem that I currently have with Vista is compatibility issues with hardware, like my printer.

So far, I like how I can make Ubuntu "MY" OS, meaning, I can make it do things to show friends that "my OS is not like YOUR OS". lol  I haven't gotten to the point where I really, really like it yet.

Speaking of tablets, I made a post in the forums about thinking of purchasing a touch screen monitor.  I wish I bought a touch screen laptop instead.  Must be nice to have a Tablet, eh?

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
Well it's a drawing tablet, not a tablet PC.  I dig it; I don't know if i want a totally touch screen laptop (I don't like writing everything over typing) but man it makes photoshop much more awesome-r heh.  You'll start seeing my 'creations' on my websites soon, thinking of doing a random encounters theme for Mindsay too.

And when you say forums, you mean Mindsay forums?

I went there once..everyone was arguing (typical) so I kind of didn't even bother to post. I think I may have like one post..not sure.

Maybe it's different now heh.

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
OH...  lol  I would still type a lot, I just want to use the touch screen for clicking links. I can't stand this touchpad. lol

Yes, MindSay forums.  I need to get out more often, and visit forums like GameTrailers or 4Chan. lol

There's always an argument there.  That's the only reason why the MindSay Forums is alive.

But it's dead-er now. heh

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
I don't like flame war forums. They irritate me and I just want to end up punching people.

So I stay away from them.

REcomic.net will have a forum soon, plus if you like games, go to www.gamedays.com. I an frequently seen there. deejradnom, FYI, in most of the places I am on the net. if you see it spelled that way, more then likely it is me

I've been using my pen and tablet on my laptop to surf the net; still prefer a mouse for that, but I don't have one for my laptop. (Previous one broke.)

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
I don't like flame wars either.  But I've been asked to target spammers instead of flamers.

Wait, is it deejradnom or deejrandom.  I accepted your add on MySpace and I thought it was deejrandom.

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
deejradnom is a sleepy mispelling of deejrandom

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
Yeah, MacOSX is Unix..
trying to learn how to use it via "line code" so I can get around the useless macros

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
Gee, I wonder why I didn't think MacOSX when you said UNIX...  what's wrong with me? lol

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
Did you know, I can blog while driving?  I've taken this laptop at places where you can't imagine yourself blogging at, like da hooood!

You're NOT computer stupid.  I'm sure you know how to do things on the computer better than operating a mobile phone when it comes to dialing my number.

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
LOL!

LOL

Uhh, no....  I don't care.

But the fact that I was lied to, the principle of being lied to, is what gets me.

But I was joking with you on this thread.

Besides, I talk to Pussypatter on the phone so much, I don't pick up any other people's phone calls.

Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
i told u, if u want me to call i will, but u told me that if i did u probably wouldn't answer the phone

I'd be backing up my files every day if I were you. Watch out for a corrupted MBR!
CallmeRoger on
Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
I've been meaning to say this when I saw your comment.  I created a folder for files in my Ubuntu, and it runs in it's own partition.  But do you mean that the corrupted MBR can destroy my files in my Vista partition as well?
onewalrus on
Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
Are you using a built in (vista or ubunt) which gives you the option of which system to boot in to, or are you dual-booting.
If you're not dual-booting and not using a built in system to enter, what system are you using?
CallmeRoger on
Re: Say HELLO to my little friend...
Vista came with my laptop first.  Now, I am dual-booting, GRUB.

Did I do something wrong?
