As Hurricane Rita approaches the Texas / Louisiana Gulf Coast, people who are here in the Houston area can feel her fingertips reaching us. I woke up this morning and stepped out to stretch my arms in the middle of my street and I felt Miss Rita's whispers. The morning sunshine was worth taking a picture of, as we won't be seeing the same sunshine for at least the next 48 hours or so...

The morning sunrise over my house...

Galveston, TX is now a ghost town. As I was watching the news, they mentioned that Miss Rita relaxed a bit and downgraded to Category 3. But the footages that they are showing in the news dudn't look too good. The sea wall is now battling the waves. It reminded me of a picture I took over there 10 years ago:

That's me, at age 16, sitting at the edge of Surfside Beach's Sea Wall
(Seawall Blvd @ Galveston, TX)

(Yes, I like sitting on daring high edges with my guitar, like my userpic. ;))

All day long, we did the hardest move-around of our stuff, no matter how dirty we got. Now, I can assure you guys that I am well prepared and everything "should" be just fine.

WHEN THE POWER FAILURE TAKES PLACE: I will be "moblogging" entries at http://kuyaroger.blogspot.com. They are entries with less than 100 characters sent using my cell phone. I already have a "moblogged" entry posted there so you will get an idea of how I'm doing. At around 11:00pm Central Time (12:00am EST); I will post a short update to let you know how Rita is like. If I don't, that means the power is out.

My Mindsay Network: Please be patient and expect delays on my replies to your comments and replies to our current threads. Some of you are getting all upset and all because I have not replied to you or responded your comments. Please, just understand. Thanks.

My Fellow Houstonians (Harris County, Fort Bend County, and others): I know that many of you are riding the storm. Saddle up, Texan Cowboys and Cowgirls! It's only a few more hours before 9:00pm. Stay indoors and think of safety first. I'm assuming all you hurricane riders know what to do. Take good care and God Bless Y'ALL! YEEHAWW!!!

People need to understand that you're not going to be around to answer everyone's replies. Gosh, they need to relax and also realize that there is severe weather that will be affecting you. I would think they would be more worried about you than about replies.

Thank you Ruth.  Give me some advice on Storm Chasing, because my camera is getting bored. lol

My family is my priority, and so as my son and his mother.  They are safe out in Dallas / Fort Worth.  My family is stocking up on cooked RICE!  weeeeeeeee

Re: Hurricane Rita: The Counting Hours
Hell, as long as you have your noodles and rice you'll be fine.

Open the window from inside your house and shoot from there -- you mught get a few drops of water, but it's better than being outside.  Damn -- we've been watching it on TV all night, Rita's kickin' your asses!

CallmeRoger on
Re: Hurricane Rita: The Counting Hours
She didn't really kick our asses, that was Beaumont, Port Arthur, Galveston and Lake Charles.

Re: Hurricane Rita: The Counting Hours
LOL  Now, Isabella a couple of years ago -- that was moderately exciting.  Sadao was in chicago on a buisness trip so meg and I were here by ourselves.  She was a baby -- just about 18 months old -- and we were without power for 2 days, lots of strong wind and there were tornado sightings in the area that night.  I remember calling Sadao just before we lost power and he was watching Survivor and said he'd call back - but he wasn't able to get through until the next day.  haha  It was cool, I tell ya.  LOL

Re: Hurricane Rita: The Counting Hours
I read about Isabella last night at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ last night, as I was reading about all the other historical ones.

I never looked -- I think they're computer generated.  There's a list they use --- or something like that, right?

Re: Hurricane Rita: The Counting Hours
It says that they just picked some commonly used names... But I don't believe it... I think the National Hurricane Center used names of people they know or something...

Re: Hurricane Rita: The Counting Hours
Well I sure would if it were my job to select the names!
