All day long, we were preparing ourselves for Hurricane Rita, turning our home into a fortress. And we're still not done. But as far as stocking up on food and water supply, we got that covered.

Hurricane Rita at Category 4

Hurricane Rita has been downgraded to a Category 4 as she takes a "sudden" turn towards East of Houston, East of Texas, and is still currently changing. From previous posts, I mentioned that I was located East of Rita's path, also known as "The Dirty Side" of the hurricane. Not anymore! We are now West of Miss Rita's reach, meaning we are considered to be at "The Clean Side".

But still, we are NOT lowering our defenses. We're ensuring our safety and our survival. We are still within her reach and we will still be experiencing winds traveling over 100MpH. Rita seems to change her mind a lot... sounds familiar.. ;)

Hurricane Rita's path, now projected towards Beaumont, TX.

For now, I wanna share some pics of what we have been doing here at home in Missouri City, TX.

Our hizzzouse!

The window facing the front yard, with tape.

My parent's room's window, upstairs.

That's me, cutting tape.

Looting our own emergency food supply at home.
Ramen and Coke!

I WASN'T Kidding about RAMEN Noodles and Coke! :D

Chef Boyardee, Bottled Water, Paper plates, Chunky stuff...
...and Duct Tape (not edible).

For Heather's Sake, PEPSI! :D

Some of our water supply.

If they don't order a mandatory evacuation in our area by 9:00am, that means any kind of evacuation is NOT an option. We will be taking care of some last minute reinforcements and preparations. Houston will be feeling Miss Rita's touches by tomorrow afternoon.

My Fellow Houstonians (and Mindsayers): There is no doubt that we will be experiencing a long power failure. In case you want to know how I am doing, visit http://kuyaroger.blogspot.com. I will be sending text message entries (moblogs) to THAT blog to let you guys know how I'm doing.

Yep, yep.  It's called "moblogging".  If you have a T-Mobile phone, you can use the AIM feature and update your Mindsay blog with it!   It's called the "Mindsaybot".

I don't mind if you do.  Of course you are important to me, just like everyone else in my network!

Looks pretty good so far Roger... though I'd tend to put plywood over those windows... Boy, have I got some duct tape you'd like... one of the benefits of having an American Science & Surplus store near by.

Just a friendly reminder or two...

fill the bathtub and any empty buckets with water for the toilet, washing, etc...

even though you're on the "clean side" it's still going to be damned windy and rainy with plenty of unguided missles (debris)...

tarps or plastic sheeting to cover stuff in case you loose a few shingles and some empty buckets or large kettles to catch any drips...

plan on being self-sufficient for a week minimum - just in case help is slow to arrive, which will probably be the case...

We WILL worry and pray for you and your family!

Take care and stay safe!!

Ralph

Re: Hurricane Rita: Pics of our preparation...
Thanks Ralph!  I would put plywood over the windows, but there's none left at Home Depot or everywhere else.  The tape that we used on those pics weren't duct tape, until NOW, after reinforcing it with duct tape which arrived later on.

Bath Tub: Done
Missiles: Semi-protected
Tarp / Plastic: umm, oops...
self-sufficiency for 1 week minimum:  Check

Thanks man!  Power will be out really soon, so don't forget to keep up with "http://kuyaroger.blogspot.com".

I'll be sure to be safe, my friend!  Have I got some pictures I'm already looking forward to share.

LOL!  I made sure I took a picture of that for ya!

I'm broke, so even if we don't use up our food supply due to the hurricane, I'll be hiding the rest in my room. (especially the Pepsi, lol).  I'll be in touch the best that I can.  But when the power goes out, I'll be thinkin' of everyone of y'all  lots!

We don't need it to cool the water.  We just need for it to dispense.
