Almost two years ago I gave up drinking soda.  I now drink tea, water, lemonade, and milk.  That's about it.  Not a whole lot of variety, but I don't require much variety with my beverages.  If it's good, I'll just keep drinking it without going out of my way to find something else.  That's probably how I became such a soda addict.  Diet Coke tastes good.

Quitting soda was not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. It helped that my choice of other beverages are exceptionally easy to get wherever you go.  Until last night.  Last night I was challenged and I did not rise to the challenge.  I failed.  Last night I had two sodas.

Last night my project team from work had a gathering at Miller Park to watch the Brewers take on the Astros.  Prior to the game, we had rented out a pavilion in one of the parking lots and had the stadium food service crew cater a meal for us.  There was plenty of free food and drinks.  All the beer and soda you can drink prior to the game.  Wait up... beer and soda?  I don't drink alcohol and I don't drink soda, either.  I started digging through the soda bin trying to find a bottled water.

None.

I asked the food service attendant that was taking care of our group.  She said that all my company had paid for was soda and beer, opting not to have water.  I asked her how I could get a water.  She told me that I would have to go into the stadium and pay $4 for one, but then I couldn't leave the stadium because I wouldn't be allowed reentry for the actual game.  She thought there might be a water fountain near the stadium, but it was a 10 minute round-trip walk between our pavilion and where it might be.

Faced with these options, I grabbed a soda to drink with my dinner.  I then had another one as my coworkers and I chatted before heading in to our seats.  I picked Sierra Mist, a soda that has no caffeine in it, as that was one of the reasons why I took soda out of my diet.  It wasn't that good.  I'm not a big fan of Sierra Mist to begin with.  It upsets me a bit that my first soda in almost two years was one I really didn't want.  Why couldn't it have been a Diet Coke or a Sprite?

Re: I Left the Wagon For This?
Mr. Blue recently gave up soft drinks...he's not finding it as difficult as he thought and I think all the Kilos he's shedding as a result is a good deterant to starting up again.

Now I've never been a big fan of soft drinks, but I've never heard of Sierra Mist and now I want one dammit. I think I'd probably freak from all the choice you guys have. I already spend way too much time staring at the fridge trying to choose from our limited selections.

I lost a large chunk of weight when I gave up soda once before.  This time, I didn't lose any.  This time the problem wasn't the soda I was drinking, but the massive amount of food I was eating.  I cut my food intake by about half and now I lost the weight.

Sierra Mist is kind of like a wanna-be version of Sprite, which is why I chose it.  I like Sprite almost as much as I like Diet Coke.  I realized last night that Sierra Mist is not Sprite - not even close.

I google imaged it and I don't like the packaging.

I must admit...I like Sprite occasionally...but I can't really taste the difference between it and any other lemonade.

I think your Sprite is different than ours.  Ours has lemon and lime, but I wouldn't call it lemonade.

That sucks dude.  I wish it could have been something you liked.

I also wish they someone would have thought that people would want something other to drink then just Beer or Soda.  I don't considered that to be the only accessible options for drinking.

Sorry it couldn't have been something you liked.

Re: I Left the Wagon For This?
ya know, i thought giving up Coke would be my hardest thing when i started the Atkins because i adore Coke.  come to find out, i can live without Coke, but i can't seem to live without Starbucks Frappuccinos.

however, i ALMOST fell off the soda wagon when i saw several different flavours of Jolly Rancher soda.  now that would have been worth falling off for.  i have no doubt they taste absolutely 100% awful... but i'd sure like to try one.

pretty inconsiderate of your company to not think of water!  seems to me most people i personally know would be inclined to grab water before a soda or a beer.  but then... that's here in california, not in wisconsin, where people can't live without Mt. Dew, Monsters, or Budweiser (with exceptions like you, obviously).

I nearly broke my four year streak of no "caffeinated" POP today.  My ass was dragging something fierce at work.  I thought about a Rock Star energy drink (liquid cocaine) but decided to go with powdered donuts instead.

Don't you think Sierra Mist tastes much smoother than Sprite and 7 Up?  Why don't you like the Mist?

Re: I Left the Wagon For This?
It's likely that it's nothing more than I grew up with Sprite and I'm accustomed to the taste.  Sierra Mist might not be bad, it's just not Sprite.

Oh god Sierra Mist is like crack to me. You're right on...it IS much smoother than Sprite and 7up. I could drink that stuff like water...if I wanted to die. (Diabetes.)

As far as COKES go, Sierra Mist is icky.  Jake, I think you have deficient taste buds.  You don't like garlic, onions or anything spicy and you like Sierra Mist.  No wonder our relationship never would have worked...

You're the one who doesn't like bread.

Ah, but you forget that I will eat fresh bread.  So it's not all bread, just most bread.

Re: I Left the Wagon For This?
I have a kick soda phase I am currently going though.

diet soda is so disgustingly bad for you with its chemical intake, and regular soda is just empty calories.  I wish you'd enjoyed your dip into soda land.  Will this be a one time thing or do you think your going to ease back into the soda drinkers of the world fan club?

I dont really miss soda, it seems to just be a filler drink for me.  I have been drinking a lot of Arizona Iced Tea (Red Apple) lately, it is yummy!  I highly reccommend if you don't drink it already.  And its not too bad for you either.

Re: I Left the Wagon For This?
That was a one-time thing.  I'm back to drinking tea, water, and milk.  I kind of want to try a Sprite to see if I still really do like the taste of it or if maybe I've just grown to dislike soda in general.  But, I'm not in a rush to grab that Sprite.  I think my dad drinks Sprite and he's coming to visit in a few weeks.  I might be able to bum one of off him.
